English Text

Windsheim, 30 August 1925

Dear Hans,
By the time you read this letter, you will already have received our last letter with birthday greetings. We both forgot to send a flower bouquet, and will make up for this as soon as possible. It is admittedly a tiny bouquet, but will bring you as much love from home as a big one. Be well and work hard.

I applied for a monthly disability benefit and am curious how that will work out. I also requested that it be made 24 months retroactive. Papa got back 50. Maybe I don’t know enough about all that money.

Let us hear from you, and all the best from your sister Marie.

Dear Hans,

Hope you have a wonderful day on you birthday. Do they celebrate birthdays in America? I will be thinking about you. Give my best to Uncle and Aunt. They should write again soon. Right now I have no gift for you, but I will make it up at Christmas. You have not yet gotten my picture. I will be getting a black dress soon and will get a photo made then. Be well dear Hans, and all the best from your loving Mama. Write again soon and let us know how things are going.

Auf Wiedersehen.

Have you not been homesick? We now have 2 hogs and 6 geese. After the slaughter, we will send you a cured sausage.
