English Text
Nordstemmen, den Dezember 1911
Dear sister-in-law and children,
For the first we must tell you that
the pictures pleased us and that we
got them, we were glad for them,
All of you look good on them
but your father at that time already
was not well, for he looks like it,
Dear sister-in-law, we are sorry
that you had to give up your father
already, for he could have lived a
long time yet, for he was just
fifty years old, but his time of
life was not destined to be longer,
and now find yourselves in it all
and be glad he has rest. He would
have been with you longer so gladly
Hermine Blumenberg Nordsemmen
He would have gladly stayed with you
longer, but the dear Lord
preferred to have him
otherwise He would not have called
him awy yet, not every person is
to be fortunate, so He sends
each person something, we, too, have
had all kinds of things
in these years we had two girls
that died for us
and now we have a
little boy since Agust 10
and he seems to be well on the way
so we are hopeful that we will
keep him and we are so happy about it
in other respects it is going well
with us. The oldest daughter will
be 21 in March and will soon be
engaged, she is a cook in the hotel,
her fiance is a waiter. Hermine
The second will be 19 years old. She
is presently at home for two months
then she will have a position again
as supporter, the two will
shortly send you their pictures
Minna, the third one
is eleven years old, but
is constantly not quite well
although she is big and fat
she has back trouble
so that if she falls she cannot get up
alone, and also she has
a terrible determination
which gives a lot of concern for us
If she only
could improve by the time she is to
be confirmed, otherwise we hardly
know what to do about her
Grandmother is going to be concerned
that her son went on ahead so early.
She is still well on her legs
and now let us hear from you again
soon and keep up the writing just
as if your father were still with you
But if you move don't you forget
to write your adress again
And now greetings to you from
the Blumenberg of Nord Stemmung
Hermine is also going to write
a few words
You dear ones all, First of all
I thank you for the picture that
I received, I like it a lot, I
was so glad to see you all. In
a very short time I will send
one. I hope you are well and in
good spirits, which is what I
can say for myself, thank God.
Now many greetings from you
