Offenbach 10 June 1900

My dear brother Georg!

It has been a long time since we received your dear letter, but unfortunately we haven't answered you yet. How often have I made up my mind that I would write today and then something came that did not let me come to write again. The letter writing is very difficult for me, because my head is always very affected. I was very pleased, dear Georg, that your health as well as your situation have changed for the better and that you can

look ahead into the future without worries, God willing, that you may enjoy good health for a long time to come. Unfortunately I read in your lines about our brother Fritz that he (if I understand correctly) is not at his best, but I should be terribly sorry. I do not understand it actually, Fritz was nevertheless always very careful. Where are the sons, I believed them with Fritz in the business? Hopefully they will not let their father down. Please tell me more about Fritz in your next letter. If you write to him so greet him warmly that he may also remember his sister and send her a few lines, even if there are only a few, it would please me so much.

I don’t have an address of Fritz's, enclose it next time. With us, dear Georg, it goes well so far. Thank God we are healthy until now, and I count this for the greatest happiness. Heinrich is very busy in business, but it gives him a lot of pleasure. Since the death of our sister and brother-in-law, the business has expanded significantly. It is a great factory. Gretchen has been married since 14 January. We had a lot of visitors, work and high costs. She lives very close by. Now we are glad that everything

is over and Gretchen is happy.

Karl had finished his service year in October 1899, but was called back for 8 months in April 1900. 8 days ago he was dismissed as vice sergeant of the reserve. We were very happy when he surprised us with his saber. He will write to you soon. Helene is still at home. She is very efficient in everything in the household as well as with all handicrafts. It would be hard for me if I had to do without her. Hopefully I can keep her for some time. One also gets older and sometimes very needy of rest.

How are your children,

hopefully all of them are fine. Greet them warmly from us. I haven't been to Hanau for a long time, I don't think you would be able to find your way anymore. It has colossally enlarged and embellished itself, I've also become almost completely estranged. Oh so many friends and acquaintances are already dead and this touches me always terribly, therefore I go very rarely to Hanau.

I recently spoke to Pierre Kogler here, he is still very active in the business. He sends his best regards.

Wednesday is the 13th of June and the children have here a nice circle of acquaintances and we'll go to celebrate the lantern festival

in the Offenbach forest at the Kaiser Friedrich Spring. A wonderful place. In winter I'm always looking forward to the time when you can go into the beautiful forest again.

Now dear Georg, I would like to ask you to write more often. I promise you not to let you wait so long. As already said Karl will write to you soon. So God protect you and stay healthy. This wishes from the bottom of my heart

Your sister Marie

From Heinrich and the children I send you the warmest greetings.
