My dear uncle!

We have received your dear letter of April 29th and are all deeply saddened to hear that you are not quite well lately. Mama is especially worried that you are with strangers and not with your children, who are obliged to take care of their parents in their old days. You would reassure Mama very much if you

more about it, namely how your children are doing and why you are not with one of them.

We hope, by the way, that it is not too bad and that you will get well with good care.

Mama would have liked to have written to you herself, but she also has a lot to do with headaches that sometimes make writing impossible for her. Mama was very happy that your daughter Lizzie got married and

we all wish you happiness with all your heart.

In order to be able to tell you something about Winkler, Mama asked Hanau, and learned that Winkler died suddenly two and a half years ago. About Miss Sauer, Mama could not find out anything more. As you may already know, she is a widow, and no longer lives in her parents' house, but she is doing quite well.

Many things have changed in Hanau, so that you would hardly find your way

around. It is much bigger and more beautiful now.

Now it is 300 years that the new town was founded. There will be a big celebration to mark the occasion. On the day after Pentecost there will be a big pageant, greater than anything you have ever seen here. I will have some newspapers picked up and send them to you.

Recently, the Grimm Monument has been revealed, from which I will send you a picture in the near future. Mama
regrets

that the news from Uncle Fritz is no better. We haven't heard from him for a long time. If you write to Uncle Fritz, send him many greetings from all of us. He should also write one day something Mama has been looking forward to in vain for a long time. With us so far everything goes quite well. Except for our dear mother, who is sometimes plagued by headaches, we are all healthy and that is the main thing or the best wealth.

I have now finished my apprenticeship and am quite satisfied with my job. But my most fervent wish is to go abroad soon and see as much of the world as possible. Mama isn't so happy about it, though. I would be especially happy if I would be allowed to visit you some day and get to know you personally, of whom Mama tells us so much good things. Hopefully it will be possible for me one day, because when one is young, one hopes for everything.

For today I want to close dear uncle.

We all wish you to get well soon and send you our warmest greetings and kisses.

Especially greets you in the name of my mother, your nephew

Carl Hirtes

P.S. The Kogler family sends you their best regards
