English Text

Havre, November 6, 1859 Dear Brother,
I have to let you know that I departed from Havre today, November 6 [number “6” written in with different ink], and I ask you to pick me up in New Orleans, which is your brotherly duty and is also something that will make me happy. I think you will please not refuse me. Our ship is named Lemuel Dyer [crossed out] “Fany Vern” [Fanny Fern]. My companions are Mortge’s Fanny, the Grinstien tailors and the daughter of Schmage from Gommersheim [= community SW of Lachen]. Be a good boy and come and pick me up in New Orleans. Our parents and brothers and sisters are still healthy, praise God, and all cordially greet you. A greeting to our dear uncles and aunts and greetings to you. They will surely accept me as they accepted you once. Karolina Mayer [page 2:] Mr.
Abraham Levy in Bayou Sara in the state of Louisiana North America please [give] to Emmanuel Mayer [postal stamp mark includes these words] HAVRE NOV
