B. Samuel and E. Samuel to Emanuel Meyer, February 6, 1859

English Text

Wallertheim, February 6, 1859 Most worthy Mr. E. Mayer in America, I am informing you that I have received your letter and from it have seen that with God's help you are also in good health, which makes me and your aunt very happy, and also that you thought of us. As regards us, we are also healthy, God be thanked, just like our whole family and your Aunt Mindel’s [...?...] Metger Semche [= name???] from Kleinkarlbach [who]has been at our house since his father’s death. Otherwise, there is very little news. Around her, business is particularly [...] quiet right now because in years gone by a [hole] half [...?...] in the [...?...] week in the feed a whole [...?...] year. You write that you are at your uncle’s. That’s very nice of you, and if you behave well at his place, then he will try to continue to help you. One has to be thrifty and fret everywhere if one wants to amount to something and cannot be hard for a young future person {= adult person?] like you, because as soon as one want to amount to something then one often does not feel the hardest work. I want to finish tomorrow night. Uncle B. Samuel. [different handwriting, even worse spelling]] I greet you many thousands of times and have wished very much that you should think about us and wish for your well-being. The person who is wishing this is your Aunt E. Samuel [additional note from B Samuel in left margin ] I would have sent this letter directly to you in America, but the address is not clear to me – neither the city nor the state where you are. In case you want to write to me directly, my address is B. Samuel, Tradesman in Wallertheim, Grand Duchy of Hesse [page 2:] Mr.
