Dear Friends and Family,

We owe you many thanks for the great sacrifice you are making. Hopefully having Hans with you will bring you much joy. Hans has always been a good boy for us as we hope he will be for you. It was his wish to go to America, and in God’s name we have given in to it. Dear folks, we beg you to take him into your care and shelter him from bad influences. He is still so young and inexperienced. May the great Almighty protect you and our Hans.

Things are not going well for us at the moment. Our 22 year old daughter Hanna, a sweet child, is very ill and may not longer be with us by the time you receive this letter. Hanna was at one time healthy and happy, but bad nutrition after the War has left her with this disease. Like many thousands of other Germans, she succumbed to the creeping death, tuberculosis. She is getting worse day by day.

We have yet one favor to ask. If at all possible, we would love to have a picture of Aunt to go along with the picture of Uncle we already received.

Please accept all our best wishes.

Your thankful family,

Hans Weinhardt.
