On our Migrant Connections research blog we are now featuring a new article by Eberhard Pelke titled “Brücken über den Atlantik: Zwei Generationen von Ingenieuren.” The article examines the careers and mindsets of engineers from German and Austrian backgrounds who spent all or most of their careers in North America, studying in particular how their diaries and other autobiographical documents can be used to trace their worldviews, and how the transatlantic transfer of ideas shifted towards the end of the 19th century to organizations and other institutional frameworks rather than through individual migration.
